Meh, I'm just minding my own business. Yeah I'm considered as a rookie to deviantART but I do tend to visit the website before. Mostly to view some fanart of my favorite characters.

Anyway, yesterday I brought a volume of a manga called 'Gimmick!', written by Youzaburou Kanari and art by Kuroko Yabuguchi. This time is the third volume. I got really attached to this series. The protagonist is a special effects makeup artist named Kohei Nagase. As you might probably guess, he is like a god at special effects. I mean he can make a skin mask that can fool almost everyone (including a whole team of professional filmmakers and the authorities) and he can make his creation in just a few minutes. Also his skills can make him a master of disguise.

Why I like this manga because it's fun. I always like to see Kohei's tricks with his sfx makeup skills either for movie making, fooling bad guys, or just simply prank people and have a blast. Every time I saw something unbelievable (although this is a manga) I probably first thought it was one of Kohei's tricks but how did he do it? Also there's a lot of unexpected tricks from Kohei like I thought that girl was Kohei in disguise, but it turns out to be another guy which it turns out to be Kohei which turns out to be the girls. Emm...you get the idea.

Also this manga is very informative in movie special effects. Like the making of a prosthetic skin which covers a small bag of fake blood which is used in slasher films, animatronics, matte painting, how to make a fake gun fires its gun shot like a real gun shots without harm and even shows how to make a good horror movie.

It's interesting to note that this manga pays tribute to a lot of movies. Like Kohei made a lightsaber just like from Star Wars. There's a mention on the animatronics from Men in Black. Kohei even made a prank referencing the movie Alien, where the alien baby burst out from a human chest but instead of from the chest it's burst out from the head.

What about the story? It's not really special but it was good. It's kinda like 'Yakitate Japan'. Kohei is a strong, creative, and fun guy who loves real-like special effects and tries to make something seems possible and he hates CGI. Even he is perverted, he always stick to his dream and ambition which is in sfx, more than looking at naked women and have a boner. That's another thing, this manga is inspiring to the readers to make their dreams come true. The art of the manga is also good. Every image is clear and easy to view and read.

Overall, this manga I really recommend but note that this manga is a seinen, it has nudity but it's not hentai. It reminds me the good old days before the 2000, when most movies use real objects for effects rather than done by computers. But seriously, have fun reading this especially if you're interested in movie making.
